Video games are one of the hottest markets on the planet today. With millions and millions of gamers in the world, the industry is definitely making a killing in order to feed the addiction. You’ve seen them and you’ve heard them. World or Warcraft, Everquest, Counter Strike, and other games have been the pride and joy of children and adults the world over. Even so much so that today’s gaming companies have come up with ways of interconnecting people “virtually” in order to connect and play with other gamers.

Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, the only way to play video games were to have a set unit at your house and invite people over to play. With the miracle of the internet and IP addresses you can play games with your neighbor next door or friends scattered abroad without even leaving the home. The way it works is simple. Normally most gaming units or computers have a selection that will allow you to connect into a gaming “room”. Other gamers that may be in there will either join up to play with or against you. You can even have private rooms that are password protected so that only your buddies have access to it.

You can go on the internet and find thousands of gaming groups with web 2.0 sites like Facebook or Myspace. Many of these people are waiting to meet new gamers to befriend in order to join the bliss of the virtual world of games. Gaming has definitely come along way and it will be a feat to see what the gaming world will look like 10 years down the line.
